Education is the best weapon to protect yourself: Dr Goken Geyi to Tezu youth

International Women’s  Day celebrated at Bamboosa & APNE Libraries in Lohit

“Education is the best and most powerful weapon to protect yourself. Hence reading and writing are essential for all of us”, said Dr Goken Geyi, Asstt Professor, Indira Gandhi Govt College Tezu, as she addressed students, youth and library volunteers at the International Women’s Day celebrations at Bamboosa Library, Tezu. “stories and poems have great power to convey ideas and thoughts, much better advice by an elder. And short stories are powerful educators”. In a lively interactive session, Dr Geyi exhorted the listeners to do self assessments and evaluation of their day to lives and develop contentment and intrinsic happiness. “Be yourself. Don’t keep comparing with what others have, but look within – and you realise you have many good things yourself. Remembering her college days spent at Tezu, she said she always cherished memories of her life here and that she treated it as her another home.

Dr Geyi also released her new book of poetry “Mr Blue Sky and the White Dove”, by presenting copies to Lohit Youth Libraries. The audience was enchanted by the beautiful thought and soothing impact of her writing, as she read out a few of her poems.

She also gave away the prizes to the winners of the World Radio Day Quiz for college students, conducted jointly by Akashvani Tezu & the Bamboosa Library on Feb 13, 2025.

Students Prachi Prashar and Omi Lego also spoke.  Bamboosa Library I/c Siwani Pul welcomed the audience and senior volunteer Bahailu Rangmang proposed a vote of thanks.

At Wakro, APNE Library, Wakro also celebrated Women’s day with the theme ‘Reading transforms our lives’, with  readers presenting poems and stories that they found moving and inspiring. The programme was conducted by senior library volunteers Achila Ngadong and Banika Kri.
